Unveil the System

, ,

By definition, a system is composed of certain interacting elements interconnected within an environment, that of the system.

Starting from this definition, I asked myself some questions: how can I create a new system of musical interactions? What elements do I need? What characteristics do they have? What relationships exist between them?

I began to answer these questions by building a system that characterizes this piece. The various elements, their characteristics, and how they behave with each other were defined. As the work progressed, I defined in more detail the musical result I was interested in: at the macroscopic level, establishing a form, a sound, and the macro controls of the system; at the microscopic level, the types of synthesis and the micro controls between the various elements.

By determining these latter characteristics, I consequently decided on the vision of the system at an internal level, for the performers, and an external level, for the audience.

Unveil the system is a journey to discover this system, composed of elements, interactions, and connections that transparently or clearly emerge during its development.

This piece had three preparatory works: IA2AI for two laptop performers, composed with Marco Rotondella, Iterazione di gesti meccanici for three laptop performers, and Enigma, a sound installation for two laptops and two resonant environments.

Thanks to Alessandro Casolino, Federico Ambruosi and Marco Rotondella for the execution.
