Enigma

The project takes inspiration from the Enigma machine, whose encrypted communications were famously deciphered by Alan Turing, a turning point in both history and the development of modern computation. Enigma reimagines this device not as a tool of secrecy, but as a medium for musical dialogue.

Two computers, each running a digital simulation of the Enigma machine, exchange sequences of characters through OSC communication. Every sequence generated by one machine influences the next of the other, establishing a dynamic process of interaction across two separate rooms. Within each space, a feedback system, shaped by both the character streams and the precise alignment of the rotors, introduces an additional layer of sonic transformation.

The result is a continuously evolving sound environment: a conversation between machines, spaces, and listeners, where algorithmic logic, acoustic response and historical resonance converge into a generative compositional process.
